A Journey To The End Of The World
I want to take you on a journey today, to a place commonly referred to as the end of the world. Picture it—Sagres—the southernmost tip of Portugal. Imagine standing where early settlers once stood, staring out over the vast, endless blue ocean, convinced this was it. The end. They saw a mysterious unknown stretching beyond the rocky cliffs and believed nothing else lay beyond that horizon.
Now, fast forward to the present. I stand on the same cliffs, looking out at the endless teal ocean beneath a fiery orange sky, as the sun sinks into the sea. In that moment, I could feel the same isolation and wonder those early explorers must have felt, and I understood why they believed this place was the edge of the world.
But of course, Sagres isn’t the end at all. It was simply the end of what they knew. Beyond that point was a world unexplored, opportunities not yet imagined, and adventures waiting to be discovered.
This idea fascinates me because, so often, life feels like that. We stand on the edge of what we know and assume that’s all there is. It feels like an ending—a limitation or a closing door. But, just like those settlers, what we perceive as the end is rarely the full story.
It’s so easy to get trapped by our own perceptions. We peer at life through the narrow lens of our past experiences, and that limited view makes us believe that what we see now defines everything that comes after.
But what if I told you the horizon you’re looking at isn’t a wall; it’s an invitation?
And maybe right now, you’re in a chapter you love, and that’s great. But if you’re feeling stuck, lost, or itching for something more, let me remind you of this: endings aren’t final. They’re transitions. They are moments of transformation, doorways to new adventures. The setting sun today isn’t signaling the end of your story—it’s lighting the path to tomorrow.
The sunset at Sagres is breathtaking, not just for its beauty but for what it symbolizes—an ending that gracefully transitions into a new beginning. It’s an appreciation of the now and a simultaneous celebration of all that awaits.
So here’s my question for you today: When you stand at the edge of your world, where do you want the next one to be? What’s waiting for you beyond those cliffs?
