Going down is optional. Going up is mandatory.

Hey Gang,

A few days ago, I hiked the Bright Angel Trail at the Grand Canyon.

Unlike most hikes, where the challenge is getting to the top, the Grand Canyon starts with the reward. You begin at the top. And every step takes you deeper.

What surprised me wasn't how beautiful it was. It was how easy it was to lose track of distance. The deeper I went, the less aware I became of how far I'd traveled. The views kept getting better. Gravity kept helping. One turn became another. And before long, I was much farther down than I realized.

That's when I started noticing the signs. Going down is optional. Going up is mandatory.

At first, it felt obvious. Of course it is. You have to come back.

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that sign wasn't just about hiking. It was about life.

Every meaningful decision eventually asks something of you. The business asks for patience. The relationship asks for vulnerability. The dream asks for sacrifice. The goal asks for discipline. The deeper you go, the bigger the climb back out.

And that's where so many people get discouraged. They assume the resistance means they chose the wrong path.

But what if the opposite is true? What if the climb isn't evidence that you're lost? What if it's evidence that you went somewhere worth going?

Most people are willing to take a few steps. Few are willing to go deep. And the people who go deepest are often the ones who face the hardest climb. Not because they're being punished. Because they've chosen something that requires more of them.

That's the deal. The canyon doesn't hide it. Life doesn't either.

Every meaningful pursuit eventually asks for payment. The question isn't whether the climb will come. The question is whether what you found along the way is worth climbing for.

And maybe that's the secret. The view isn't the reward. The person you become making the climb is.

Talk soon,
