Not Everyone Will Understand You—and That's Okay
Let’s kick the week off with a liberating truth: You are not for everyone—and that’s a beautiful thing.
A few days ago, this reminder hit me loud and clear during lunch with a friend. He was talking about a colleague of his—let’s call him John.
“Eddie,” my friend said, “John is brilliant. He’s adding so much value to my work. But he’s loud, he’s controversial, and honestly, he rubs a lot of people the wrong way.”
Naturally, my brain started connecting the dots: John’s personality is a bit…polarizing. My friend saw me piecing it together and added:
“But you know what? He’s exceptional at what he does. Maybe the best. He’s not for everyone—and that’s perfectly fine.”
John doesn’t waste a second trying to water himself down for the sake of universal approval. He’s unapologetically himself, and because of that, he’s free.
The takeaway?
Stop trying to reverse-engineer what other people think. Stop dulling your light to fit someone else’s expectations. Whether people love you or hate you is not your problem—what matters is showing up as your authentic self.
I’ll be honest: even in my work, I sometimes play it safe. I stick to what I know resonates with my audience. But maybe—just maybe—there’s more space to take risks, to step outside that framework.
That’s the beauty of life: it’s an experiment, and we’re the scientists.
So let me ask you:
Are there parts of yourself you’re holding back?
Dreams or passions you’ve tucked away because you’re worried they won’t be “well-received”?
We all have those hidden pieces. But here’s the truth: when you show up as your whole self—not half of yourself, not the “safe” version you think the majority will approve of—you attract the people who truly value what you bring to the table.
So, take that class. Paint that canvas. Write that story. Whatever it is, stop worrying about how it will be received and start focusing on what it means to you.
Remember, you weren't put here to please everyone. You were put here to be you. Not a little bit of you, but the fullest, boldest, most authentic version of you possible.
And that, my friend, is your superpower.
Let’s make this week count.
Continue to live inspired,
