Use What You Have, Where You Are
Hello Your World Within Community!
Have you ever been in the midst of your regular, day-to-day routine and suddenly stumbled upon an epiphany?
Last week, I was walking through the parking lot of Walgreens after picking up a few things in the store. As I approached the parking space with bags in hand I briefly paused and looked up at my car. I’m not sure why, perhaps because of the speed at which events have unfolded over the past few months, but I hadn’t thought much about the car I purchased back in November. For a minute or two, I stood there and soaked it in.
Now, let me preface this by saying I’m not one to focus much on material possessions. Not because I'm disinterested or don’t want them, but because I’ve lived long enough to know that "things'' never truly create contentment. For nearly a decade, I've been investing everything back into the business. But for the first time in a while, I decided to treat myself and buy a car that I really wanted.
Ten years ago, I was in a very different place, worrying about rent and hustling around Boston with just a laptop and a microphone. I was experimenting with my voice and exploring various ways to add value to the world.
That little microphone, just a tool used to amplify my voice, became the catalyst for a series of transformations. From recording speeches to starting a YouTube channel, to speaking opportunities, and eventually building a supportive team—it’s been an evolution of growth. As I stood staring at my car, I couldn’t help but trace it all back to that little mic that I had to bang on the table to get to work. In a sense, that's exactly what I was looking at in the parking space—the evolved version of my microphone.
Here's the thing—value isn’t just about what you see, it’s about what you make of it. You can look at that little microphone as a mere object, or you can see it as a portal to the infinite, to a universe that can transform your reality.
The key lies in recognizing, respecting, and utilizing the value that surrounds you. Look around and pinpoint what holds significance for you. Maybe it’s Microsoft Word that evolves into a platform for storytelling, which becomes your vehicle to connect with an audience, then becomes an incentive to write a book, which leads to speaking engagements. Whether it’s a paintbrush, the gym, or your laptop, you get the point. It’s trading up from these seemingly small fragments of value.
That little microphone and the courage to pick it up all those years ago paved the way for incredible opportunities and experiences. It’s a reminder that regardless of where you are in life, there’s always untapped value waiting to be uncovered and explored.
As you go about your week, I encourage you to take a moment to look around you. Who knows what treasures you might find hiding in plain sight? Embrace them, capitalize on them, and watch as they transform your life in ways you never thought possible.
Here’s to recognizing the value in little things and building a future filled with endless possibilities.
Continue to live inspired,
Eddie
