You've Come Too Far To Stop Now
Hello Your World Within Community!
This past weekend, I had the privilege of joining my friend Evan Carmichael‘s mastermind group, where I shared insights into my decade-long journey with YouTube. It was an incredible group of people with captivating conversations, but one particular moment stood out to me.
As I spoke about my journey from zero subscribers to where I am today, I explained that it wasn’t a radical transformation of my content that propelled my channel’s growth—it was the subtle nuances in its presentation. I was so immersed in the creative process, I had initially overlooked the importance of packaging—the titles, thumbnails, and branding. It wasn’t until I became more proficient in these areas that my channel grew.
So, naturally, I thought I would be bombarded with questions on the technical intricacies of YouTube growth strategies, thumbnails, or branding advice. But what the group was genuinely curious about cut straight to the heart of perseverance:
How did I not quit during seven years of minimal growth?
I didn’t really give an in-depth answer at the time but the question has lingered in my mind since, and I realize one truth stands clear—I persevered because I love what I do.
In my world, I was doing something that mattered. Every story I shared meant something to me. Each piece of content was not just a creation—it was a labor of love, a testament to my belief in the power of storytelling. Despite the initial lack of success, I found solace in knowing that my work resonated with at least one person. I thought if I could help one person, I could help a million.
But perhaps the most important factor in my journey was my refusal to leave the door cracked. I made a conscious decision to commit wholeheartedly to my path, shutting out any notion of a plan B. My determination and a strong belief in the value of my work got me through some really bad and frustrating days.
I never stop believing that I am always one decision away from a totally different life. One creation away from that change I’ve been looking for. When something didn’t work out how I planned, I wouldn’t dwell on it. I’d move to the next project. I didn’t allow myself time to get lost in one failure—I moved on to the next success.
Lastly, I made a commitment to adjust. Experience has taught me the invaluable lesson of adaptability. If you keep doing the same thing, you’re going to get the same results. Growth requires evolution. It demands a willingness to show up each day, a little wiser and a little more seasoned than the day before. As the saying goes, “You can’t stop someone who refuses to quit.” The magic lies in this relentless pursuit of improvement, in bouncing back from setbacks with renewed determination and focus on what comes next.
Remember, you aren’t alone—seek guidance from those who have been down the same path. But above all, never leave that door cracked open for doubt or hesitation to creep back in.
Continue to live inspired,
